Our History The 1st Market Drayton Scouts unfortunately disbanded at the start of the Second World War. In 1942, the 2nd Market Drayton Scout Group was formed by the curate of St. Mary’s Church and held their meetings in the vestry. A plot of land, off the Shrewsbury road was purchased in 1959 and the parents erected a wooden Nissan hut on the site. This served us very well for many years but eventually it was obvious that we needed a newer and more modern building. In 1999 we were very fortunate in obtaining a grant from the National Lottery Charities Board for £189,000 to build a new Headquarters. The Mayor of Market Drayton officially opened the magnificent building on the 28th of October 2000. We had two parties during the day, one for the young members and later in the evening for adults and past members. We also had 11 of our German Scout friends from Bochum Harpen who stayed for the weekend.
